Geek Anthems

Searching Google for “Anthem”, for a post at another blog of mine, I stumbled on several videos with “Geek Anthems”. First: J Bevs-Geek Anthem.

It’s a beautiful world
live a simple life
ain’t really no gangsta
live the geeky life
yeah i rep the south
where the beats are tight
and the temp is warm
and the girls are dimes
been called a nerd
since the start of time
shout out to geeks
that stand in line
for movie premieres
at midnight
comic books
and caffeine highs
Video Games
and lonely nights
Transformers
Light saber fights
dreams of hogwarts
capes and tights
I feel your pain
I live the life
got a stash of green
and anime
got a sick obsession
with tina fey
don’t tell nobody

This is for the dork
for the dweeb
for the goober
for the techie
and the trekkie
for the weirdo
and the loser

I wear my plaid like a badge
don’t you see my dvds?
I got every single season
but 3 really ain’t that funny
My eyes red as crimson
cause i been watchin the Simpsons
on the internet tryin to find some
torrents and pornography
got a monopoly
on lonliness and misery
geeks bob ya head
if you really are feelin me
posted on my twitter
but i didn’t get re-tweeted
now I’m feeling kinda bitter
and a little bit defeated
this girl posted on my facebook
I don’t really think she meant it
I’m a lil bit obsessive
have you seen my toy collection?
I kill it all with alcohol
I just want some affection
this girl hugged me yesterday
it gave me an erection
she considers me a brother
and I’ll never learn my lesson
I tell her how I’m feeling
i consider her a blessing
she says I’m a good friend
and that I need to stop stressin
i can’t though…

This is for the dork
for the dweeb
for the goober
for the techie
and the trekkie
for the weirdo
and the loser

Geeks get militant
it’s time for a change
take a shower
fuck a bitch
exercise
be a man

Second: Sam Wrestle’s The Geek Anthem

You point and laugh because I am a virgin
Well haha, so’s my imaginary girlfriend
I look at her, she knows what Im after
Blow me like a dragon, I’ll be your dungeon master

I may look stupid when I have my cape on
I always wear it for the star wars marathon
Ive got no job, no car, no life at all
No bills to pay, no friends to call

(Chorus)
We live at home, no where to go, look around, were all alone
We watch tv and sleep till three, you call us losers, but we’re as happy as can be

You had a secret club you never let me in
You said Im weak ‘cuz Im allergic to oxygen
I collect action figures, please dont call them “dolls”
The athletes never let me play with them or with their balls

I have more comic books than I could ever read
And every episode of Bill Nye on DVD
Dont cook, dont clean, dont need tomy mom does all that stuff
I wear my Batman pajamas to make me tough

(Chorus)

Finally: Marian Call’s “Nerd Anthem”. Lyrics via Lyric Wiki.

All the cool kids keep enthusiasm rationed
Right down to the last explosive ounce
But I’d rather indulge my many passions
Even if my squaritude’s a little too pronounced

Perhaps I do not strike you as a geek
Without the horn-rimmed glasses and knee-high argyle socks
But nerdery is more than wardrobe deep
And I’m a nerd down in my heart and that’s where nerdhood rocks

I’m better aquainted than a good girl ought to be
With Aragorn and Yo-Saf-Bridge and Worf and HAL and Han
But you don’t really know me and my culture don’t control me
So don’t you pigeon hole me ’cause my phaser’s set to stun!

I have been a nerd since long before I could have heard
That bookish girls should look and act a certain way
And I’ll still be a geek when I am utterly antique
Because I do not care what normal people say

My superpower’s draining fun from parties
But if I am a misfit then I’m in good company
With Auden, Austin, Hawking, Galileo and Van Gogh,
And countless other weirdos whom you really ought to know

So stow your expectations, no I won’t fix your PC
And I don’t mind being underrated or ignored
The world is much too interesting to entertain ennui
And I won’t ever play it cool so I won’t ever once be bored

Oh, I have been a nerd since long before anyone heard
That pale and scrawny was the latest fashion trend
And I’ll still be a geek after nobody thinks it’s chic
Because I don’t require approval in the end

In aught-four, D-Kwon’s Dance Grooves swept the country
And suddenly old moon boots were Italian haute couture
Time magazine reported that our time had finally come
I guess they didn’t know that we already run the world

I have been a nerd since my first five syllable word
And no TV series or movie changes that
And I’ll still be a geek now Vote for Pedro’s so last week
I do not care whether Milan endorses plaid

I have been a nerd since long before anyone heard
That thin and scrawny was the latest fashion trend
And I’ll still be a geek after nobody thinks it’s chic
Because I don’t require approval in the end

I have been a nerd since long before anyone heard
That thin and scrawny was the latest fashion trend
And I’ll still be a geek after nobody thinks it’s chic
You will find that I have nothing to defend

No, I don’t need your approval in the end…

A silly song.

Other, and IMHO better Geek Music:

  • The Aesthetics and Beauty of Knowledge

Shih was the opposite of facts and raw information; shih was the elegance of knowledge, the insight and skill to organize knowledge into meaningful patterns. As an artist chooses colours or light to make her pictures, a master of shih chooses textures of knowledge – various ideas, myths, abstractions, and theories – to create a way of seeing the world. The aesthetics and beauty of knowledge – this was shih.

  • Geek Attitude

The attitude thing is about flexibility, portability, creativity, sociability and jamming (ran out of suitable “ity” words!). It’s about improvising – in the practical and musical senses of the word; not getting tangled in boundaries and the “right” way to do things.
Definitely the only way to travel.
