Bloglines will shut down

That is very bad news, my favourite newsreader Bloglines will shut down on October 1.
Dissappointed!
On their blog Ask.com explains how they came to this decision. Of course it’s all about “focus”. Their focus is Q&A offering. Then why did they acquire Bloglines in 2005? Why don’t they just sell it?
Okay, they are right when they write:

As Steve Gillmor pointed out in TechCrunch last year , being locked in an RSS reader makes less and less sense to people as Twitter and Facebook dominate real-time information flow. Today RSS is the enabling technology – the infrastructure, the delivery system. RSS is a means to an end, not a consumer experience in and of itself. As a result, RSS aggregator usage has slowed significantly, and Bloglines isn’t the only service to feel the impact.. The writing is on the wall.

I do not agree. The information you read on Twitter and Facebook is very different from the information that is offered by a good blog. A MicroBlogpost can not compete with a Blogpost.
There are other good feedreaders, like Google Reader and Fastladder, and I have tried them in the past. But I preferred Bloglines.
I want Bloglines back 🙁
Whining doesn’t make any sense, so tonight I exported my feeds from Bloglines and imported them into both Google Reader and Fastladder. I think Fastladder comes closest to my preferences, but maybe Google will be a better solution if I go for the long term – I’m not sure how long Fastladder will be around now RSS feeds apparently are becoming less popular.
